Vicar Jacob Kempfert was born in Watertown, WI and attended Martin Luther Elementary School (WELS) in Neenah, WI. He graduated from Fox Valley Lutheran High School (WELS) in Appleton, WI in 2003, and attended Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, MN, graduating in 2007 with a degree in English and theatre. He then earned a graduate degree in English and creative (fiction) writing from the University of Maine in Orono, ME. He and his wife Anna (Basel) taught English in South Korea from 2012-2015. While teaching at a Christian high school just south of Seoul, and sharing the message of Jesus’ full and free forgiveness with his students, Jacob discerned a call into the public ministry. He and Anna returned to Mankato to attend Bethany Lutheran Theological Seminary, from which he will graduate in May 2020. Jacob and Anna have one daughter, Hadassah Marie. They enjoy discussing film, literature, and art, as well as traveling whenever possible. Jacob attempts to keep up with the world of film as an amateur film buff, and also enjoys working on writing projects (mostly fiction, but also theatre and translation), woodblock printmaking, and mixed media art.
