Grow In Grace

2 Peter 3:18 “But grow in the grace and knowledge
of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
Recently, as I was shaking hands with people after church, one of our school’s upper grade students came through the line. It made me do a double-take! I realized that this individual had grown considerably taller since school had gotten out in May. In shock, I said, “WOW! You must have grown 6 inches over the summer!” He smiled politely at me and said, “Yeah, that’s what everyone has been saying.”
It is a joy to watch the children of our congregation and school grow into young adults! It is rewarding, as a Pastor and Teacher, to see our young people mature and succeed at the different stages of life that they come to. It is especially gratifying to think that we as a church and a school had a hand in helping them grow and get to where they are today, and also as we see a bright future ahead of them!
The theme for our school year at Mount Olive (that is shared also by MVL and other grade schools of our fellowship in the area,) focuses us on this joyful task that we have been given to help our young people “Grow in Grace.” Mount Olive Lutheran School exists specifically for this reason! We want to help our young people “Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” We understand that there is nothing more important, than to Feed the Lambs–to give them God’s Word and to prepare them for the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper–so that they will be well prepared to tackle the challenges they will face in their lives here in this world. But we also understand that our purpose is even more important than that! We have the task of preparing them for the glories that belong to them in their eternal home of Heaven!
This task of helping them “Grow in Grace” is a task not only given to our Lutheran day school. This is the purpose of our congregation and church. We want all members, including YOU, to “Grow in Grace.” Just as it is important for our young people to be strengthened so that they can tackle the challenges of their lives–so too do YOU need strengthening to tackle the challenges of your daily life! Just as we want to make sure our youth are prepared to enter their eternal glory (whenever that might be–though we pray for them it be in the distant future!)–so too do we want YOU to be prepared to enter your eternal glory, whenever God calls upon you!
With this in mind, I urge you to come and receive God’s Word and Sacraments as often as possible! Come and hear God’s Word, as it is shared with you in the liturgy, hymns, and preaching of the Divine Service. Make use of our frequent Communion Sundays, receiving the Lord’s Supper. Support and attend the many programs that we have at Mount Olive – Sunday School, Confirmation Classes, the many various Bible Studies that take place. I also encourage you to make time for personal and family home devotions and prayer. God wants YOU to “Grow in Grace” and He provides opportunities for you to do this in these ways! Through His Word and Sacraments He comes to you, bringing you the forgiveness of sins and strengthening your faith. Through His Word and Sacraments He gives you the ability to face the challenges that life presents before you, but even more than that, He flings open the gates of Heaven to you and invites you to come and join Him there!
It is our prayer as your Pastors that you also will take this theme for our year to heart! Let Mount Olive share God’s Word and Sacraments with you, that through them, you will “Grow in Grace!”
-Pr. Luke Ulrich

Planned Giving Committee Update

and New Brochure

Mt Olive Lutheran Church and School has established an Endowment Fund and a Trust Fund with the purpose of providing a vehicle for members to gift assets of various kinds to Mount Olive to support and supplement on a long-term basis the mission of the church and school.   A committee was formed to oversee the administration of the two funds and they report to the Stewardship Committee.   Members of the Planned Giving Committee are as follows: Jake Krier, John Bungum, Harlan Mehlhop, Vivian Smith and Beth Marzolf.   The gifts received for both funds are invested with the WELS Investment Funds.
The committee recently created a Planned Giving brochure which provides information on the following questions:
*What is an Endowment?
*What is a Trust Fund?
*How are the Endowment and Trust Funds to be managed?
*What are the benefits of Planned Giving?
*How do I make a gift?
This brochure is available on the table in the narthax, on request by contacting the church office, by contacting one of the committee members or by contacting one of the pastors.
On Sunday, September 25th the Planned Giving Committee will have a table set up after each service to distribute brochures and answer basic questions.
